The Tools of the PC Technician

There are many different tools now used in the world of a PC technician from their diagnostic equipment to static protection. Some of the many different tools are listed below with their uses:

Electronic Test Equipment

This is used by any person that deals with electrical devices and comes in advanced and simple tools depending on the diagnostic requirements. Like a voltmeter is a fairly simple piece of equipment and just ensures there is power going to the device by measuring the volts sent to the piece of equipment. An ammeter is also useful this measures the current flowing through the equipment and lets you know exactly how much power is being input.

Static protection equipment - This proves a very important piece of equipment as there are parts inside computers that if shocked by static electricity can stop working and because the parts inside that need protecting are parts that keep the computer running it's an essential part of their equipment. These types of tools come in different forms but just work by grounding the person's hands working with the computer to prevent any shocks. This is especially important if it's a person that deals with other peoples computers because if the technician broke these parts they would have to spend a lot of money replacing them. It's also important to have de-magnetised tools when working with computers as some parts can also be damaged by magnets.

PC Chip Tools

Chip tools - These are used for the inserting and extraction of computer chips from your system and because the chips are usually extremely small the tools used when working with them need to be the right specification. It would generally be PC technicians that would use these tool's as they are fairly specialized or if the person carrying out the work is a keen computer technician through choice of hobby then they should be qualified to use this tool also, however, if your not overly confident or not qualified then it's suggested that you hand your PC over to a professional for the work to be carried out. This is because the memory chips are a very important part of the PC if damaged in any way it could loose you vital information.

Networking equipment - This system is usually used within an office environment but is ever increasing in popularity with people that own more than one PC at home. To complete the set up there are different tools the technician would have to take with them such as extra cable and either the software that's been downloaded onto a disk or making sure they know where to find the software they require online to download directly to the PC's. They would also use an Ethernet network switch they usually improve the connection through out the network and can either separate or connect different network connections.

There are many different tools so when carrying out the work your self ensure you have not only the right tools but the right specification for your PC equipment as they come in different sizes.
