Internet Connection Problems
The internet is used in many aspects of work these days and if you can't afford the prices to call out a PC technician then it's a good idea to get as much background in things that can go wrong so you can fix simple problems yourself. There are also different types of internet connection from your standard cable connection to wireless connection meaning there tends to be more problems that can occur.
Examples of things that can go wrong with your different types of internet connections:
My computer keeps asking for a dial up, how do I stop it from doing this?
This could just be due to your settings you have and is a fairly easy thing to stop happening. If you click on the tools menu then on the internet options selection it should bring up a page with a selection of tabs along the top. With these tabs select the connections tab; in the centre there should be a selection for you to choose your default connection type ensure this is changed to never dial a connection. This means you will have full control of when the dial up is done and your PC will no longer ask you continually.
Making your Internet Connection Faster
There are many things that could be causing this to happen firstly check your cable as an old cable can affect the quality of connection a lot. Sharing
programs can always cause the internet to run slowly so while looking on the net you will be best closing any running sharing programs down to help it run faster. If it is your broadband connection that is running slowly then you have to bear in mind it could be your computer and not the actual connection. However, there are a few things that could be causing this problem for example if spy ware has downloaded onto your computer system without your knowledge they are practically invisible and can slow your PC a lot bringing up pop ups and even changing your home page. To get rid of the programmes simply find a site with the software to download that will remove these types of programmes from your system. Another is that your PC's memory could be fragmented; solve this by de-fragmenting your PC which should be done every few months to ensure its running correctly. With the broadband connection it's self if it's a DSL connection then it could be the distance you are from the suppliers source, because the further away from the source the slower your connection can be.
Changing my Internet Connection from Dial Up to Wireless
Its actually quite simple to change from dial up to wireless if you have the right equipment and know how. Firstly what you will need to start are wireless router, a computer with built in wireless support or one with a wireless adaptor and finally a broadband connection. Once you have all the correct equipment the process starts with ensuring your modem is connected to the internet then fitting your wireless router to the modem in your PC. As for the rest of the instructions it will vary depending on the router you have bought but you will receive a full lot of instructions with your router to follow.
If you are having problems with your internet connection then there are usually simple solutions to solve them. You can ask at computer shops, online on troubleshoot websites and there are also many books on the subject.
